Dispose of Trash

The Town contracts with AVES/Moody's for residential refuse collection once per week (new schedule begins July 1, 2013 - click here to download). New residents - please contact AVES at 357-9997 to request a can. All refuse must be placed in cans provided by AVES. The town provides each resident with one can - additional cans may be rented from AVES for $5.50 each. Most large items to be disposed of may be taken to the Isle of Wight Transfer Station located at 13191 Four Square Rd., Smithfield. Please contact the transfer station at 961-3874 for hours of service and/or questions about disposal of refuse.

Call - In Debris Pickup will be each Wednesday (unless a Holiday week) - residents must call AVES at 357-9997 one week prior to schedule debris pickup.  There is a limit of 10 bags or bundles of yard debris per pickup day. Cutting and tree branches shall be tied and bundled and not exceed 60 inches in length or 3 inches in diameter. Bags (clear only) and/or bundles shall not exceed 35 pounds in weight. 

The town provides a Spring Community Cleanup Day each year. Dates and areas of service will be advertised in The Smithfield Times and Town Website.

Holidays    * Please note where applicable, holidays which fall on a Saturday are observed on the previous Friday and holidays which fall on a Sunday are observed on the following Monday. Makeup days for trash collection will be on Wednesday (same week following holiday).
