Emergency Response Team

As a means to better handle unexpected exigent situations, the Smithfield Police Department established the Emergency Response Team (ERT).  The primary mission of the ERT is the entry and securing of specified locations as a result of executing an arrest or search warrant in anticipated situations of violence, when a hostage or barricade situation exists, and when there exists an usually dangerous environment, or circumstances exist that would dictate the immediate entry of a location for the protection of life.

The ERT is comprised of highly motivated officers that train and serve as part-time members with primary functions within the department.  The ERT is a collateral duty, in addition to the members' primary job responsibilities.  Members respond whenever a situation arises that requires their services.
