Man Charged in Assault on Female Police Officer
June 27, 2006
A 33-year-old Smithfield man punched a female Smithfield police officer in the face, neck and chest last weekend after he refused an arrest, police said Monday.
Two officers subdued Ray A. Parker Jr., of Bee Street, with pepper spray.  The police officer was on patrol about 6:40 p.m. Saturday in the Old Jersey Park neighborhood when a woman flagged her
Smithfield Police Capt. Alonzo Howell.  The woman said Parker was drunk, on her property and had threatened and cursed her.
Parker started stumbling toward the officer, cursed her and then hit her on the chest and across the chin and neck.  The officer was not injured, Howell said.
Parker was charged with felony assault, obstruction of justice, public swearing and intoxication.
