Man Charged in Assault
on Female Police Officer

A 33-year-old Smithfield man punched a female Smithfield police
officer in the face, neck and chest last weekend after he
refused an arrest, police said Monday.
Two officers subdued Ray A. Parker Jr., of Bee Street, with pepper
spray. The police officer was on patrol about 6:40 p.m.

Capt. Alonzo Howell. The woman said Parker was drunk, on
her property and had threatened and cursed her.
Parker started stumbling toward the officer, cursed her and then
hit her on the chest and across the chin and neck. The
officer was not injured, Howell said.
Parker was charged with felony assault, obstruction of justice,
public swearing and intoxication. |
