Police Officer The Smithfield Police Department is currently taking applications for the position of police officer. Employment Application, Background Investigation, and Authorization for Release of Information forms may be picked up Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Smithfield Police Department, 1613 South Church Street, Smithfield, Virginia or can be downloaded from the links below. Applications will be accepted through February 8, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at the Smithfield Police Department. The Town of Smithfield is an Equal Opportunity Employer. If you are interested in a uniformed law enforcement position that will enable you to be an active participant in our partnership with the community, this position is for you! Applicants must be of good character, 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma, and a valid Virginia driver’s license. Candidates must have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Ideal candidates will possess prior law enforcement experience and/or college level course work in Criminal Justice or a related field. A written examination will be conducted, followed by oral interview sessions. Selected individuals will be required to undergo a comprehensive background investigation. Salary Range: $34,765 to $44,648 depending on qualifications with excellent benefits including: Virginia State Retirement (LEOS), Full Health Care Coverage, Take home car package, and Tuition Reimbursement. Applicants are asked to bring a photocopy of their driver’s license and a picture I.D. on the day of testing. Testing will be held at Westside Elementary School located at 800 Main Street, Smithfield, Virginia on February 9, 2008, starting at 9:00 a.m.
