Common Traffic Infractions
What's This Ticket For?

Some of you may have received a VA Uniform Summons to traffic court in Isle of Wight County from one of our officers in the Smithfield Police Department.  Below, we have listed some of the more common traffic infractions so that you can read the Code, and be familiar with the law you may have been charged with violating.

We believe that knowledge is power.  By familiarizing you with the law, you will be more empowered to comply with the law.  We know that it can be frustrating to be summonsed for a traffic infraction you simply may not have understood, like when to use your turn signal, how to properly secure a child in a safety seat, or what constitutes a proper stop at a stop sign.  Together, we can prevent future occurrences of these infractions.
