Smithfield's professional planning staff is responsible for many different tasks such as: coordinate land use development, review site/subdivision plans, issue zoning, sign and land disturbing permits, code enforcement, drainage issues, administer the town's Geographic Information System (GIS) and enforce the Town's zoning and subdivision regulations. Please note that any construction in the Town that requires a Building Permit from Isle of Wight County also requires a Town of Smithfield Zoning Permit (or a Town of Smithfield Zoning Waiver).
