Cyber Crimes & Identity Theft

Internet Safety for Families

Cyber crimes are not only fast growing, but can also be overwhelming for parents to try to control. Smithfield Police Department is also concerned for the safety of our families, and wants to provide you with as many resources as possible to keep yourself informed. Parents can visit NetSmartz to educate themselves, and direct their children to be safer as they browse online. We encourage you to visit NetSmartz and use their online tools including activities, public service announcements, and safety pledges.

The Cyber TipLine is, "The Congressionally mandated CyberTipline is a reporting mechanism for cases of child sexual exploitation including child pornography, online enticement of children for sex acts, molestation of children outside the family, sex tourism of children, child victims of prostitution, and unsolicited obscene material sent to a child. Reports may be made 24-hours per day, 7 days per week online at www.cybertipline.com or by calling 1-800-843-5678" (from www.cybertipline.org/)

Smithfield PD also encourages you to follow the links below to learn more about protecting you and your family from cyber crimes.
