Today is Victory in Europe Day, the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces in 1945 which marked the end of World War II in Europe. William Henry Mauldin was an American editorial cartoonist who won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work. This lecture will be a look back on his life and work as well as a look at some of the work by native Smithfield resident Col. John “Jack” C. Dashiell, 1927-2017.
