Jay Hunemuller is the Town of Smithfield’s Controller as of April of 2024 and has served the Town since March of 2023 as a Robert Half FTEP (Full Time Engagement Professional) and Interim Treasurer until Laura’s arrival in June of 2023.
His government experience includes serving at Old Dominion University in the Office of Finance, Accounts Payable & Procurement in AP Audit, helped implement two succeeding electronic AP Travel systems, trained employees, audit preparations, analysis, and reporting. His non-profit experience includes serving as Comptroller and Corporate Treasurer for Christian Fellowship Inc (international ministry) based in Norfolk, Virginia, responsible for sound fiscal management including training, budget prep, monitoring, analysis, audit prep, internal and external financial reporting.
Other private experience includes real estate (investing, sales, purchase, refinance, etc.) entrepreneurship, life insurance, and mortgage brokering.
Jay is a veteran having served the U.S. Navy honorably for six years in an advanced electronics rate (ET1/E-6).
Jay earned a Master of Science (Accounting) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Old Dominion University and is a CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
