How to Dispose of Trash
Overview
The Town contracts with Bay Disposal for residential refuse collection. The Town provides each residential address with one cart. Extra carts may be rented from Bay by calling 757-857-9700. Pick-ups are scheduled once a week (Monday's for residents on West Side and Tuesday's for residents on East Side).
Most large items to be disposed of may be taken to the Isle of Wight Transfer Station located at 13191 Four Square Road, Smithfield. Please call the Transfer Station at 757-961-3874 for hours of service and/or questions about disposal of refuse.
Call-In Debris Pickup will be done each Wednesday. Residents must call Town of Smithfield at 757-365-4200 option 4 or email kjones@smithfieldva.gov to schedule debris pickup. There is a limit of 10 bags or bundles of yard debris per pickup day. Cutting and tree branches shall be tied and bundled and not exceed 60 inches in length or 3 inches in diameter. Bags and/or bundles shall not exceed 35 pounds in weight.
The Town provides a Spring & Fall Community Cleanup Day each year. Dates and areas of service will be announced on the Town website.
